Beijing, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) China said that it is preparing a special law on climate change, as part of its strategy to face the challenges arising from the global phenomenon. ‘It must be said that we think that this is the right time to make the law, since some foundations have been previously established,’ Li Gao, head of the climate change office at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, told a press conference. As he recalled, the country included carbon reduction as a binding objective in the socioeconomic development plan until 2025, after reducing it by 16.3 percent in the 2011-2015 period and 18.8 percent in the 2016-2020 stage.
Li emphasized that the country will take more decisive measures to achieve climate commitments and contribute to promoting a fair and equitable system of global environmental governance. Last week, President Xi Jinping confirmed that China will work to comply with its goals in tackling climate change, will involve society and companies, and will implement actions to lower carbon dioxide emissions in the scheduled time.
